I had the chance to watch a preview of Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy before it hits the tele screens tonight on e4, and I must say that I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did.
Not being a massive fan of Noel’s, I was really hoping that he would come through with this one, and I watched it with an open mind. I had seen the adverts and thought it was a bit too much, like he was trying too hard to impress and show that he didn't have to follow the generic comedy route that everyone seems to be taking these days.
I’ve never seen a show like this before but at the same time it has elements of everything I find entertaining.
If I’m honest, the main attraction when I watched it was the set design. I felt like I was a kid again, coming home from school and watching CITV! It was absolutely perfect for the style of comedy that Noel was getting across and fitted exactly with the characters. The bright clashing colours and oversized props captured my attention and held it.
I wouldn’t say that this is laugh out loud comedy, it’s more subtle than that, and to be honest I don’t think I’ve ever laughed out loud at Noel anyway. But I did find myself smiling at the one liners and characters.
I found Sgt Raymond Boombox and his sidekick Gash the most entertaining. I’m not going to go into huge amounts of detail because it’s not on the tele box for another 9 hours but “doooo youuuu taaaake caaaards?!” (You’ll understand later tonight).
Anyway I hope you all have a watch tonight, it’s on e4 at 10pm. Tweet to me about it @Topgeargirly. I would love to hear what other people think about it.
Here’s a trailer for your eyes….
